archeological crypt

On this site stood the oldest stone building of the castle; the foundations date back to the 9th century. Beeing first a hall, it was transformed in the 11th or 12th century into seperate rooms, with the hall now being on the first floor of the building (nowadays terrasse).
Several window openings can be seen in the outer wall as well as a latrin opening. The original floor has disappeared due to archeological digs. Some of the finds from here are on display.
The exhibition in place is not up to date! (the visitor's center in the courtyard has replaced this exhibition)
